MEMBERSHIP POLICIES

Membership in the Lakewood Ranch Wind Ensemble is determined by the Music Director/Conductor in accordance with the artistic needs of the ensemble. The Music Director may consult with the Conductor Emeritus and other ensemble members when evaluating membership status, identifying personnel needs, and considering prospective members.

MEMBER STATUS

Membership in the Lakewood Ranch Wind Ensemble consists of two categories:

  1. Core Member - A Core member of the ensemble is a performing member in good standing who has shown a commitment to all scheduled rehearsals and concerts. Acceptable absences may include (a) a previously booked paying performance with another organization, (b) personal or family illness, or (c) other significant professional or personal obligations. In each case, it is appropriate for the member to recommend a capable substitute when possible.

  2. On-call Members – An On-call member is one who joins the Ensemble to replace a Core Member for a particular concert or set of concerts.  On-call members may eventually become Core members.

These designations are fluid and may change at any time based on the needs of the ensemble. All determinations regarding member status are made at the discretion of the Music Director and Conductor Emeritus. The intent of these designations is not to create hierarchy, but to provide clarity, fairness, and flexibility, while supporting the highest level of performance and fostering a positive ensemble culture.

Participation in community outreach performances is voluntary and does not affect Core Member status or standing within the ensemble.

Performer in Good Standing

  • Has musical skills adequate to perform assigned music parts.

  • Has a satisfactory record of attendance at rehearsals/concerts.

  • Follows all written policies of the wind ensemble.

  • Supports and helps promote the performances of the wind ensemble.

CONCERT DATES AND AVAILABILITY

Concert dates for the season will be distributed following the April concert and will be available on the LWRWE website. Muzodo scheduling application will be used to notify and request member availability for each event and rehearsal. Members are urged to respond to the Muzodo emails in a timely fashion.

ATTENDANCE

The group has limited rehearsal time before each concert.  Attendance at all rehearsals is expected. If an unforeseen emergency arises, please contact the Music Director at 941-321-1183.

REHEARSALS

Unless otherwise specified, rehearsals are from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm on two (2) consecutive Saturdays preceding the Main Stage concerts for that season. Rehearsals will take place at Peace Presbyterian Church, 12705 SR- 64 E, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34212.

Rehearsal Expectations

  • Rehearsal is intended for ensemble balance and blend, not for learning individual parts.

  • Members are expected to come to rehearsals with their parts fully prepared, including reviewing and marking their music based on any pre-rehearsal notes distributed in advance.

  • Listening across the ensemble is critical. Balance and intonation are each member’s responsibility. Be an active participant in correcting issues within your section.

  • Prior to the beginning of each rehearsal/concert, or at conductor’s request, the Principal Clarinet (Concertmaster) will give two (2) tuning notes.

  • The first note is for all woodwind players.

  • The second note is for all brass players.

Rehearsal Logistics

Moving equipment, chairs, and stands is a time-consuming and necessary part of rehearsals. Members are asked to assist with striking at the conclusion of each rehearsal unless physically unable to do so. We ask that those who are not able to assist please clear their area promptly so others may reset the venue to its original state. Setup follows a specific stage plot and seating arrangement and will be handled by designated personnel.

MUSIC & MUSIC FOLDERS

Music will be issued by the Music Director and Librarian for each concert in both digital and hard-copy formats, with hard copies provided in a band-issued music folder. Folders may be picked up at Bertrand’s Music Keyboards & More, located at 5905 53rd Ave. E, Bradenton, FL 34203, during regular business hours (closed Mondays). Members will be notified through Muzodo when folders are ready for pickup.

Music folders are the property of the Lakewood Ranch Wind Ensemble and should not be defaced. Some music is owned by the ensemble, while other materials may be on loan from outside organizations.
